Emmanuel Barthélemy : ウィキペディア英語版 | Emmanuel Barthélemy
Emmanuel Barthélemy (1820–1855), was a French worker and a member of secret Blanquist societies during the reign of Louis-Phillipe, the citizen king of France in the July monarchy from 1830 until 1848.〔Autour d'Alexandre Herzen: documents inédits Marc Vuilleumier - 1973- p111 "Emmanuel Barthélemy (1820-1855), est un personnage des plus énigma- tiques. A 17 ans, maltraité par un sergent de ville, lors d'une émeute, il garda en mémoire le visage de son adversaire, le retrouva et le tua d'un coup de couteau." 〕 After fleeing to London, he fought in the last fatal duel in England in 1852. In 1855, he was hanged after shooting and killing his employer and another man. ==Revolutionary activity== In 1839, Barthélemy was imprisoned for shooting and killing a ''Sergent de ville'' (police officer).〔 However, he was released in 1847 during a general amnesty.〔 He participated in the June Days Uprising in Paris, which saw working-class Parisians erecting barricades and battling government troops between 23 and 26 June 1848. Barthélemy commanded the insurrectionists manning a barricade blocking ''Rue de la Grange-aux-Belles'' until overcome by forces commanded by General Lamoricière. In the aftermath of the uprising, he was arrested and convicted. He was held at the Conciergerie prison, but nevertheless managed to escape to London in 1850,〔 just before he was due to be deported to Devil's Island.
